Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update adds up to eight-player play on one Nintendo Switch 2

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has received a free update for Nintendo Switch 2, adding split-screen play for up to eight people on one console and camera play through a USB camera.

A free update was released for the Nintendo Switch software《Mario Kart 8 Deluxe》on September 2, 2026. The update can be applied by connecting a Nintendo Switch 2 console to the internet and downloading the free update data.

When playing《Mario Kart 8 Deluxe》on Nintendo Switch 2, functions that make use of Nintendo Switch 2 performance are now available. Loading time before a race starts is reduced, and the game supports the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution televisions for clearer gameplay.

Camera Play is available by connecting Nintendo Switch 2 Camera or another separately sold USB camera to a Nintendo Switch 2 console. During Camera Play, the player’s face appears within the game screen. Camera Play is available only when playing with two to four players. With one Nintendo Switch 2 console and controllers for the number of players, up to eight people can play using split-screen display.

GameChat requires an internet environment and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. 《Mario Kart 8 Deluxe》also has modes and functions that require an internet connection and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
