Full Report
Anthropic announced on October 8 a $150 million commitment over three years to the federal Genesis Mission, which aims to accelerate scientific and technological discovery through AI. The funding will help make Claude available to more than 15 participating agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.
The company plans to provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects over the next three years. It also plans to work with agencies and national laboratories on science priorities including fusion energy and quantum computing, while offering researchers training, onboarding, and technical support. Anthropic says it will also help agencies new to the mission get their first projects running.
Anthropic announced the commitment at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit in Washington, DC, hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The company says it first announced its partnership with the US Department of Energy and the Genesis Mission the previous December, and has since worked with DOE to bring Claude to scientists across national laboratories. Separately, Anthropic opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats for academic scientists and expanded its AI for Science program, which provides credits to researchers on high-impact projects.
Why This Matters
The commitment combines funding, model access, and hands-on support for work across more than 15 agencies and several hundred research projects. The announcement also identifies fusion energy and quantum computing as areas for collaboration, alongside separate access and credit programs for academic researchers.
