Full Report
Apple introduced 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models on October 28, featuring a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display. Apple lists up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The company says touch is coming to Mac for the first time, with the touch sensor built directly into the display panel.
The laptops use M5 Pro or M5 Max and can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Apple says battery life reaches up to 24 hours; the 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds and the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds. Ports include three Thunderbolt 5 connections, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. M5 Pro supports up to three external displays, while M5 Max supports up to four.
macOS 27 includes Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features. Dynamic Island also comes to Mac, providing a home for Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI. Apple says pre-orders begin October 28 and availability starts November 6. This release shares its preorder and availability dates with a separate Apple announcement for a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, but the announcements describe different configurations.
Why This Matters
The announcement adds more than a display and chip update: touch controls and Dynamic Island bring new interaction features to Mac, while the M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations differ in how many external displays they support. Those distinctions give buyers concrete feature and configuration differences to weigh.
