Apple Maps now shows Lake Ontario as “Lake America” for users in the United States. The source links the change to pressure from Donald Trump and a GNIS update.

Signal Summary

The source says users who search for Lake Ontario in the United States are shown the name Lake America. During a brief transition, the map still displayed Lake Ontario while search results showed Lake America; the naming dispute was also connected to a trade disagreement between the United States and Canada.

Why It Matters

The change directly affects how U.S. users find and identify the lake in Apple Maps, while the temporary mismatch between map labels and search results could cause confusion. It also gives the U.S.-Canada naming dispute a visible effect in a widely used mapping product.
