Full Report

Apple announced on October 22, 2026, that organizations and educational institutions can now purchase app subscriptions in volume through multiseat purchasing. Organizations using Apple Business or Apple School Manager can discover and buy auto-renewable subscriptions, with availability through Apple Business, Apple School Manager, and the App Store. Organizations can purchase the seats they need through a single Apple In-App Purchase, then assign and manage them using existing device-management tools. They can also add or remove seats as needed. Multiseat purchasing is enabled by default in App Store Connect unless a developer previously changed the setting, and developers can adjust availability options at any time.

The feature also supports group subscriptions. Starting October 28, 2026, developers can configure and test group purchases in a Sandbox Apple Account. Apple plans to bring group purchases to the App Store this winter, allowing people to buy multiple subscription seats and invite others to access them. An Apple WWDC26 developer session had also outlined group purchases and organizational volume purchasing as two subscription-purchasing paths. Why This Matters

Organizations can distribute subscription seats through device-management workflows they already use, while group purchases are planned as another route for sharing subscription access. October 28 gives developers a specific date to begin configuring and testing the group option.
