AWS Shares Six-Week AI Builder Playbook and Pilot Results
AWS describes a six-week program that paired non-engineering business professionals with mentors and production-grade tools to build AI prototypes. The company also reports changes in participants’ self-rated agentic AI understanding, preparedness to identify AI opportunities, and adoption of Strands Agents SDK and AgentCore.

Full Report
AWS published a playbook on October 7, 2026, authored by Alicia Retzlaff, Imaan Tariq, Sara Golon, and Patricia Laszlo, detailing a six-week AI-building program. AWS says 90 percent of the business professionals in the group it surveyed wanted hands-on experience building AI agents. The program paired participants without engineering backgrounds with mentors and production-grade tools to create working prototypes.
The pilot’s winning prototype, WealthWise, was a multi-agent financial advisory tool. Its five specialized agents handled portfolio analysis, risk assessment, financial planning, market insights, and personalized investment recommendations. AWS reports that the share of participants rating their understanding of agentic AI as strong or expert increased from 27 percent to 82 percent. The share who felt well or extremely prepared to identify AI opportunities rose from 41 percent to 85 percent.
For customer use, 52 percent of participants identified customers who could benefit from their projects, while 87 percent expected to apply what they learned with customers within 30 days. AWS also reports that participant adoption of Strands Agents SDK increased from 20 percent to 80 percent, and AgentCore adoption rose from 39 percent to 85 percent. The article says the pilot expanded from one team to regional and then global deployment; the program had a 100 percent recommendation rate, and 95 percent of participants said it met or exceeded expectations.
AWS says the playbook, evaluation rubrics, and environment setup guides are available to teams interested in replicating the model, and directs them to contact an author. The post sits alongside other recent efforts to expand practical AI training: on October 1, OpenAI announced a partnership with America’s SBDC to broaden hands-on AI training and local support for small businesses. AWS’s article focuses on the design and reported pilot outcomes of its six-week program.
Why This Matters
The report connects training with prototype development, adoption of named tools, and expected customer-facing use—not just course participation. Its playbook and supporting materials offer teams a concrete model to examine, while the reported percentages describe this program’s participants and should not be treated as guaranteed outcomes for other organizations.

1Building AI builders: Playbook for closing the AI knowledge-capability gap
Alicia Retzlaff
“The biggest barrier to AI adoption isn't awareness. It's the gap between talking about AI and building with it. Here's the playbook we used to turn non-technical, customer-facing professionals into confident AI builders in six weeks, and how your organization can replicate it.”
