9to5Mac reports that camera-equipped AirPods have reportedly moved from a planned 2026 release to late 2027, while AirPods 5 are expected at next week’s event in two ANC variants. The AirPods 5 announcement has not been confirmed.
The report says the camera-equipped AirPods could place one camera in each earbud, use longer stems than standard AirPods Pro, and include a small LED that lights up when the cameras capture data. Details about AirPods 5 features remain unclear, as does the status of a reportedly lighter AirPods Max planned for 2027.
A move to late 2027 would push the expected arrival of camera-equipped AirPods beyond their original 2026 target. That makes AirPods 5 the potentially nearer AirPods update, although its timing, features, and reported announcement remain unconfirmed.
