Claude Code adds mods to customize its UI, prompts and tool calls
Anthropic’s official video introduces mods in Claude Code, which can change what the product renders, what enters a prompt and which tool calls it makes. The examples include a live context breakdown, an agent side pane and hover-to-reveal email addresses.
Full Report
Claude Code now supports mods, according to a new official video from Anthropic. Lydia demonstrates three she built: a live context breakdown, an agent side pane and an interface that reveals email addresses on hover. The video also builds the email-address mod from scratch. Mods can change what Claude Code renders, what goes into a prompt and which tool calls it makes.
Anthropic’s getting-started guide describes mods as hooks shipped inside plugins and implemented as JavaScript or TypeScript modules, with the ability to draw custom UI. The feature therefore reaches beyond appearance: it gives developers ways to tailor Claude Code’s interface as well as parts of its prompt and tool behavior.
Why This Matters
Because mods can affect rendering, prompt content and tool calls, they offer developers a way to customize more than Claude Code’s appearance. The demonstrated side pane and hover interaction show how that flexibility can be applied within a working session.

“Claude Code now supports mods: functions you write that change what Claude Code renders, what goes into a prompt, and what tool calls it makes. Lydia from Anthropic shows three she built.
