Full Report

Apple released Final Cut Camera 2.4 on September 29, 2026, as a free software update. The redesigned app supports variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro, letting users set the aperture directly or record in shutter-priority or aperture-priority mode. Apple had announced the iPhone 18 Pro lineup’s 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture on September 9; the phones became available on September 18.

The update also brings Cinematic mode effects to regular video, including ProRes and Apple Log footage. Users can adjust focus points and depth of field while editing in Final Cut Pro. The redesigned app makes controls such as shutter angle, ISO, and white balance easier to access, and adds customizable false-color and clipping overlays, focus peaking with sensitivity control, a recording tally light, and a two-finger gesture to clear the viewfinder.

With iOS 27, Final Cut Camera adds professional video scopes, including RGB Parade and histogram, clean SDI output via an HDMI-to-SDI converter, and genlock offset. Together, these features connect iPhone 18 Pro’s aperture controls with monitoring and synchronization tools in the filming workflow, while compatible footage can also receive focus and depth-of-field adjustments in Final Cut Pro.

Why This Matters

The update makes iPhone 18 Pro’s variable aperture available within Final Cut Camera’s video workflow and adds monitoring and synchronization tools such as scopes, SDI output, and genlock offset. For creators who shoot on iPhone and finish projects in Final Cut Pro, it links capture controls with post-production adjustments.
