Fire Emblem Shadows Free Update Adds Book IV’s First Two Chapters
Nintendo announced a free Fire Emblem Shadows update on October 9, adding the first two chapters of Book IV, “An Island Apart,” alongside additions inspired by Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Dietrich can also be recruited through the Premium Pass until October 27 at 10:59 p.m. PT.
Full Report
Nintendo announced a free update for Fire Emblem Shadows on October 9, 2026. It adds Chapters 1 and 2 of Book IV, “An Island Apart,” for both light and shadow. The story follows Kurt and his friends as they escape to Holtz, seek refuge among its islands, and face pursuit by the empire. Players unlock chapters with Story Fragments earned as battle rewards.
The update also includes additions inspired by Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, a Nintendo Switch 2 game. Nintendo of America had announced a Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Direct for August 4, 2026; the new update brings content inspired by that game into Fire Emblem Shadows.
Dietrich appears in the Season Pass and can be recruited through the Premium Pass until October 27 at 10:59 p.m. PT. Fire Emblem Shadows is free to download and play on smart devices, with optional in-game purchases. Its gameplay combines real-time strategy and social deduction, letting players seek out the traitor or deceive others. Persistent internet access and a compatible smartphone are required.
Why This Matters
The update adds two chapters and clarifies that progression through them uses Story Fragments earned from battles. The Premium Pass recruitment window gives players a specific deadline to consider, while the connection and device requirements are practical details for anyone preparing to play.
