Apple may skip M6 Pro and M6 Max chips
MacRumors reported that Apple is planning a base M6 chip, but not higher-end M6 Pro or M6 Max versions. The outlet says the move is tied to bigger AI-related changes coming in the M7 family.
According to MacRumors, Apple’s chip roadmap could shift from the usual tiered rollout and move straight from M6 to later M7 variants. The report also says a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with a base M6 chip is still expected later this year.
If accurate, this would change the upgrade path for MacBook Pro, Mac Studio, and other Apple Silicon machines. It also suggests AI performance is becoming a bigger driver of chip design and release timing.
