MacRumors reported that the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be the only iPhone 18 Pro model with a variable-aperture camera. The report attributed the claim to leaker Ice Universe and referenced earlier supplier-file leaks.
The reported camera distinction could give the larger Pro Max model more control over depth of field and background blur. MacRumors noted that Apple has not previously used a variable aperture on an iPhone.
If the report is accurate, camera capabilities could become a more significant reason to choose the Pro Max over the smaller Pro model. The feature’s practical value will depend on how Apple implements the aperture controls.
This is reporter coverage from MacRumors based on a leaker’s claim and earlier leaked supplier files, not an official Apple confirmation.
Start with the primary evidence, then review supporting sources and context.
