Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 launches October 27, with pre-orders and upgrade terms detailed
Nintendo says Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 launches October 27, 2026, and is now available to pre-order. The announcement details edition prices and the pre-order and digital upgrade options for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners.

Full Report
Nintendo has announced that Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 launches October 27, 2026, with pre-orders now available. The physical Standard Edition can be pre-ordered at retail. In most territories, Nintendo Switch 2 digital owners can pre-order the digital Standard Edition at no charge through the end of January 2027. Nintendo’s announcement also sets out the digital upgrade path for Nintendo Switch owners that had appeared in an earlier report.
Nintendo Switch digital owners can upgrade to the digital Nintendo Switch 2 Standard Edition for free for a limited time, except in Japan and Taiwan, where Nintendo lists prices of 100 JPY and 30 NTD, respectively. Owners can instead upgrade to the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection for discounted fees. Listed regular prices are $29.99 for Minecraft, $39.99 for Minecraft: Deluxe Collection, and $49.99 for Minecraft: Ultimate Collection.
All versions include the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack with Vibrant Visuals. The Deluxe Collection adds Celebration Food, Rescue Dogs, Plenty O’Blocks, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins. The Ultimate Collection also includes Decocraft and Weapons + Tools, with five exclusive Character Creator items and 1,000 Minecoins. Nintendo notes that Vibrant Visuals is unavailable in some gameplay, including split-screen and certain Marketplace Worlds and content. Minecoins included or purchased in Minecraft on a Nintendo device must be used in the Nintendo ecosystem.
Why This Matters
The announcement fills in details that were missing from the earlier report of a Switch 2 release and upgrade path: the exact launch date, edition prices, and upgrade conditions. The Japan and Taiwan fees, the free digital pre-order window, and the Nintendo-ecosystem restriction on Minecoins are practical differences for players deciding which edition or purchase route to use.
