「New Disney Cruise Ship Sailing」 — 「Disney Believe Updates」 — Disney Believe Reaches Keel-Laying Milestone as Second Gigablock Construction Begins
Disney Cruise Line says Disney Believe has reached its keel-laying milestone, with work on the ship’s second gigablock underway. The ship is planned to sail in late 2027, and Disney has scheduled a livestream to reveal more ship and itinerary details on October 7.
Full Report
Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Believe reached its keel-laying milestone in an October 5 construction update. The company also reported that work on the ship’s second gigablock is underway. Disney plans for the vessel to set sail in late 2027.
For the ceremony, a specially minted coin depicting Tinker Bell was temporarily placed beneath the keel. Disney describes the keel as the ship’s structural center running from bow to stern, and says the maritime tradition is believed to bring good fortune to the ship and its future crew.
The first of the ship’s three gigablocks floated out of Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, in the September 18 update. Disney says ship sections can weigh more than 31,000 tons; the first section contains the midship, including the Grand Hall. Earlier design details placed Moana at the center of the Grand Hall theme, with Woody and Buzz Lightyear sculptures planned for the stern and Tinker Bell artwork for the bow.
The construction update adds a tangible building milestone to the ship’s previously shared design plans. Disney Parks has scheduled an October 7 livestream at 4:30 p.m. ET to reveal details including Disney Believe’s homeport, itineraries, venues, and entertainment.
Why This Matters
The keel ceremony and start of work on the second gigablock give readers concrete construction progress beyond the previously revealed design concepts. The three-section build also provides a clearer picture of how announced spaces such as the Grand Hall fit into the ship’s construction.
