Nintendo to Hold The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, Featuring Switch 2 Ocarina of Time Details and Anniversary Initiatives
Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 2026.9.8, which will air on September 8, 2026 at 10:00 p.m. Taiwan time. The presentation will run for approximately 30 minutes and focus on new information related to the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series.
According to Nintendo’s official announcement, the presentation will cover initiatives beyond video games created to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary, as well as new details about the Nintendo Switch 2 title The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was previously announced during a Nintendo Direct earlier this year and is scheduled for release in 2026. Additional details about the title are expected to be revealed during the anniversary presentation.
Nintendo also confirmed that The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 2026.9.8 will be available through the Nintendo Today! smart-device app. The app can be used free of charge with a Nintendo Account, providing another way for viewers to watch the presentation.
The Zelda-focused broadcast will also begin two consecutive days of Nintendo presentations. A separate Nintendo Direct is scheduled for September 9 at 10:00 p.m. Taiwan time, with an approximately 45-minute presentation focused primarily on upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 titles. Following that presentation, Nintendo of America will also host Nintendo Treehouse: Live | September 2026, featuring gameplay from selected titles shown during the Direct.
Event Details
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct 2026.9.8
* Date: September 8, 2026 * Taiwan Time: 10:00 p.m. * Japan Time: 11:00 p.m. * Duration: Approximately 30 minutes * Focus: The Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary initiatives, including projects beyond games, plus new details on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time * Where to Watch: Nintendo’s official Direct channels and the Nintendo Today! app
Why This Matters
Nintendo’s latest announcement gives the anniversary presentation a much clearer scope, particularly by confirming that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 will receive additional details. The Direct will also extend beyond games with separate 40th-anniversary initiatives, making it both a software update and a broader celebration of the franchise. The main questions now are what Nintendo will reveal about the Switch 2 version of Ocarina of Time and whether additional anniversary projects will appear.
