Full Report

On October 9, Nintendo published an introduction video and TV commercial for Nintendo Switch 2 game 『Nintendo Switch Sports Resort』. The company says players can use swinging and tilting motions with Joy-Con 2. At ウーフーアイランド, the featured motion-based sports include boxing, ping-pong, and thumb wrestling.

The game can also be played with Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, with skateboarding excluded from that compatibility. Nintendo notes that some modes and features require an internet connection and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

The game is scheduled to launch on October 22, 2026, and pre-orders are available through Nintendo Store and ニンテンドーeショップ. Nintendo’s previously covered overview trailer detailed 12 sports and said Island Crown can be played online or offline; this announcement adds practical information about motion controls, the compatibility exception, and requirements for some features.

Why This Matters

The compatibility detail helps players check whether their existing Nintendo Switch Joy-Con can be used, while the online and membership requirements clarify what may be needed to access some modes and features.
