MacRumors reports that the M6’s architecture points to a likely 2nm process for the A20 Pro expected in the iPhone 18 Pro, along with graphics, memory-bandwidth, and Neural Engine changes; recent estimates put it up to 18% faster and 30% more power efficient than the A19 Pro.
The M6 is Apple’s first chip built on TSMC’s 2nm N2 process, and the report says the A20 could be Apple’s second N2 chip. The A20 Pro may also use a dual Neural Engine and continue to lack AV1 encode, but those details and the final A20 and A20 Pro specifications remain unconfirmed.
The M6 gives the A20’s possible N2 process a reference point from a shipping Apple chip rather than only analyst forecasts. It still does not confirm the iPhone 18 Pro’s final performance, power efficiency, or chip specifications.
