Barclays expands Claude deployment across operations and software engineering

Anthropic announced on October 1, 2026, that Barclays is expanding its strategic collaboration with the company, integrating enterprise AI systems across the bank’s global operations. Barclays expects Claude Code adoption to reach 50% of its developer population by the end of 2026, rising to a majority of software engineers in 2027. The bank says it is using Claude to accelerate software development, modernize legacy systems, and improve operational efficiency.

The announcement also describes existing applications. Barclays’ Colleague Knowledge Assistant, powered by Claude, has been live since 2025 to help employees find information. More than 16,000 colleagues have adopted it, and it has handled over one million searches in support of more than 20 million UK retail customers. In Global Markets, Claude models help classify, enrich, and route client inquiry emails; the platform processes approximately 120,000 emails each day. Barclays says its AI use cases are governed by security controls and human oversight.
