Xbox Wire has detailed DMZ, a mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. On the Haijin map, players will gather loot, complete objectives, fight enemies and rival Operators, then try to extract with what they have earned. The story takes place after the Modern Warfare 4 Campaign, with players tasked with identifying a new threat and dismantling its operations. Deployments can be entered through Story Missions, Dynamic Operations or Free Roam.
The Forward Operating Base’s 3D Printer serves as the main crafting station between deployments. Players can unlock recipes and upgrades for equipment, the printer and the FOB. Crafting uses Resources and rarer 3D Printer Ingredients; the four basic Resources are Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals and Metals. Story Missions are replayable narrative-led deployments that offer objectives and rewards such as high-value gear and DMZ Cash. Dynamic Operations let squads choose an operation and pursue its objectives for DMZ XP, Cash and the ability to call in a Supply Drop.
Operator progression is tied to extraction as well. Players start with two Operator slots and can unlock a third by progressing through DMZ levels. Successful exfils earn Trait Points for the Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist Trait Trees, up to a maximum of 18 points. If an Operator becomes MIA, players must recover them with DMZ Cash or dismiss them; a recovered Operator keeps their Traits but loses their gear. Acquired items, including Bank and Stash contents, are shared across all Active Duty Operators. Earlier, Nintendo Life reported that Activision had named Digital Legends as a partner on the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Modern Warfare 4 and gave an August 28 open-beta start date for that platform.
Why This Matters
DMZ links extraction risk to both an Operator’s equipment and long-term progression. The shared inventory and MIA rules also make resource management relevant across a player’s roster, helping clarify the practical stakes of each deployment.
