Live-action The Legend of Zelda film is in production, planned for worldwide theatrical release on April 30, 2027

Nintendo has officially announced the title of its upcoming live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda. The movie will be released under the title The Legend of Zelda and is currently scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle the film’s global theatrical distribution.

Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad Producing

The film is being jointly produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc.

Nintendo Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto will serve as a producer alongside Avi Arad, founder of Arad Productions.

Wes Ball is directing the film.

Nintendo also confirmed that it will finance more than 50% of the production costs, while Sony Pictures Entertainment will co-finance the project and manage worldwide theatrical distribution.

Zelda and Link Cast Confirmed

The two lead roles have also been confirmed.

Bo Bragason will play Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will portray Link.

Nintendo’s announcement does not provide further details about the story, setting, additional cast members, or when the first trailer will be released.

The Project Moves Into a More Defined Stage

The Legend of Zelda series first launched in 1986 and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026.

With the movie’s official title, global release date, director, lead cast, and production structure now confirmed, Nintendo’s live-action adaptation is moving into a much clearer stage of development.

For now, the main details still waiting to be revealed include the film’s story, supporting cast, character designs, and first official footage.

The Legend of Zelda is scheduled to premiere worldwide on April 30, 2027.
