「The Adjudicated Query」 — AWS outlines “Adjudicated Query” pattern for lease-compliance checks

AWS describes an architecture in which users ask questions through Amazon Quick while a non-AI rules engine makes compliance determinations. Its example covers 50,000 leases across multiple states and uses a completeness receipt to account for every scanned lease.

「The Adjudicated Query」 — AWS outlines “Adjudicated Query” pattern for lease-compliance checks

Full Report

In an October 2 post, AWS introduces the “Adjudicated Query” pattern, pairing an Amazon Quick chat agent with a bounded MCP server and a deterministic rules engine for compliance questions. AWS says the design aims to provide provably complete, defensible answers. Users can ask questions in natural language, but pass/fail decisions remain with the non-AI rules engine. The post uses a portfolio of 50,000 leases across multiple states as its example.

The model translates questions into calls on a fixed set of typed operations and narrates the returned results; AWS says it does not write queries or make compliance determinations. The MCP server exposes six tools. Rules are maintained as versioned data rather than embedded in code. The post says a change in law can be handled by editing a rulebook row instead of deploying code.

To account for the full scan, the system uses a completeness receipt that checks four counts: compliant, in-breach, ambiguous, and unreadable leases. Together they must equal the scanned total. The receipt is computed and asserted before results are persisted; a run that cannot account for its population does not finish. This gives the conversational interface counts that can be checked against the scope of the scan.

The post follows AWS’s September 29 description of a contract-intelligence platform that uses AI agents to extract and verify contract fields, with Amazon Quick analytics for questions about individual contracts and the portfolio. This article focuses instead on setting boundaries for compliance decisions and accounting for a large scan. AWS also says the pattern can apply to sanctions screening, insurance claims adjudication, and export control.

Why This Matters

For large compliance reviews, an unaccounted-for portion of the scanned population can undermine confidence in the overall result. AWS’s receipt checks that the outcome categories add up to the scan total before results are saved, while keeping the compliance determination in the deterministic rules engine rather than the chat model.

Sweep thousands of leases for compliance using Amazon Quick and the Adjudicated Query pattern

    Anand Komandooru

“The Adjudicated Query pattern pairs the Amazon Quick chat agent with a bounded MCP server over a deterministic rules engine to deliver provably complete, defensible compliance answers. This post walks through the reference architecture and a deployable AWS CDK sample, using lease compliance as the running example.”
